Hello Parents of 5MC!
It was great seeing so many of you at the Open House last week!  Thanks so much for coming!  The kids always enjoy having parents check out their hard work, clean desks, and neat handwriting.  They want to make you proud.
Today in class we began with our new writing assignment: Paragraphs of the Week (or POWs).  We discussed how to write an interesting topic sentence that introduces the reader to what the paragraph will be about, how to come up with at least five supporting sentences, and how to write a concluding sentence to wrap up the main idea.  In class, we have worked on writing about our favorite sport.  At home this week, the students will write about their favorite season.  Tonight they will brainstorm.  The final draft (along with the rough draft and the rubric) will be due on Friday.  Each night breaks down the assignment into smaller parts.  Please feel free to email me: kmcguigan@portsmouth.k12.nh.us with any questions about this assignment.
In math we have been working on place value, and the kids today practiced writing decimals as fractions and fractions as decimals.
We also began writing some Problem Solver skits.  Ask your child about what skit they are doing.

Thanks,
Mrs. McGuigan
